A Contemplative Concert
Contemplative Concerts are safe, inclusive, judgement-free concerts for people of all ages, kinds, and abilities. The traditional classical concert setting can be uncomfortable and inaccessible to many individuals. At a Contemplative Concert, you may sit, stand, walk, lie down, color, create, meditate, come and go, intellectualize, analyze, rest, or do nothing. You may enjoy the music in whatever posture feels most comfortable to you.
In September, join us for "Femmepressionist", a new concert curated by and starring Amy Maples. This contemplative concert allows listeners to move around the space, color, stretch and hear music by women composers from the last century. With Damien Krzyzek, piano, and Jenna Hunt, Harp.
Amy is a Chattanooga, Tennessee native who currently resides in Golden, CO, with her husband, son, miniature tiger (tabby), and 100lbs goldendoodle. Quickly gaining a reputation for her crystalline coloratura, relentless high notes, and witty theatrics, Amy compels audiences with her fearless artistry and attention to detail. While her reach extends far beyond the borders of Colorado, Amy has become the go-to soprano in the Centennial State. She performs frequently with such Colorado companies as Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Central City Opera, Opera Colorado, Loveland Opera Theatre, Boulder Opera, Opera Fort Collins, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Colorado Chamber Orchestra, The Larimer Chorale, and the Parish House Baroque Ensemble.
Possessing a special talent for all things florid, iconic roles include Gilda, Manon, Baby Doe, Cunegonde, Susanna, Adina, Lakmé, Thérèse, and Mabel. Adding to her arsenal of modern repertoire such as Stephanie in Jake Heggie’s To Hell and Back (Opera Steamboat), Mariana in Joe Illick’s Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World (Central City Opera), Sylvia in Paul Fowler’s Behold the Man, and Soprano Soloist in Joseph Schwantner’s Sparrows (Chamber Orchestra of the Springs), she looks forward to performing the role of Younger Alyce in Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs this coming April.
In 2022 Amy’s desire to bring the transformative experience of live classical music to all types of people–young, old, and the physically and neuro divergent–led her to develop her own passion project: programming “Contemplative Concerts” during which audiences may enjoy the music in whatever way they choose: sitting, standing, lying down, coloring, knitting, walking through the space, or otherwise. Amy’s love of the French Impressionist repertoire combined with her feminist sensibilities led her to quite literally “dream up” the first program, Femmepressionist, a concert exclusively featuring works by women composers and women visual artists of the Impression(ish) style. Her upcoming concert Illumination: a Contemplative Concert for the Darkest Days features music by living composers Paul Fowler and Stephen Mager with ethereal pieces for soprano, harp, and flute.
Amy received her MM in Voice Performance from Florida State University where she studied with tenor Stanford Olsen, after receiving her BM in Voice Performance at Lee University in her home state of Tennessee.
