What is an art song? Why do they matter? For centuries, this small genre has been a vital part of the classical and concert music scene. Join Art Song Colorado as we share some of the most famous pieces for voice and piano. We’ll also share unique and rarely performed pieces that may surprise and delight die-hard aficionados.
This presentation will feature performances by professional artists, Colorado Mesa University students along-side stories, supertitle translations and surprises!
You can check it out for FREE thanks to a generous grant from the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture and our partner organization Colorado Mesa University. It is co-sponsored by Ruth Mathews-Leubner.
By synthesizing music and poetry, we engage and empower people through the classical timelessness of art song.
Founded in 2015 as “Denver Art Song Project,” Art Song Colorado introduces brand new audiences to the delights of the genre. Their performances include projected super-titles, video and visual art. The group creates online videos that engage, inform and entertain.
Art Song Colorado partners with a range of artists to create innovative art song videos and play with the traditional recital format. They released two albums as Denver Art Song Project and have two more in the works under the DASP label, a nod to their early beginnings.
While the group began in the Denver Area, they have now performed in Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and Fort Collins. Art Song Colorado recently presented at the Videmus conference, “Reflecting on the Past, Reaching to the Future ii” at the University of Michigan.
Eapen Leubner, tenor, leads the group as CEO and the group is evolving to become a 501c3 in 2019. In addition to introducing new audiences, the group provides Colorado artists with digital materials and career opportunities.
